endocrine/exocrine glands
• architecture of thyroids is severely altered and thyroglobulin production is active
• glandular hypertrophy is due to follicular cell hyperplasia
• hypertrophy of the thyroid gland is seen starting at 2 months of age, with each lobe on average 3-4 times normal size
• thyroids from mice younger than 3 months of age show signs of cellular transformation characterized as follicular cell hyperplasia and dysplastic follicles
• mice 3 months of age or older develop solid subtype of papillary thyroid carcinoma
• thyroid carcinomas present as large regions of tissue devoid of follicles or papillae

neoplasm
• thyroids from mice younger than 3 months of age show signs of cellular transformation characterized as follicular cell hyperplasia and dysplastic follicles
• mice 3 months of age or older develop solid subtype of papillary thyroid carcinoma
• thyroid carcinomas present as large regions of tissue devoid of follicles or papillae
• 33% of mice show metastasis in lymph nodes, with the metastatic tumor showing papillary features of thyroid carcinoma
