Neuromuscular junction abnormalities in Basp1tm1Crni/Basp1tm1Crni mice

mortality/aging
• only 10% of mice survive to adulthood

nervous system
• from P12 to P15, terminal Schwann cells in the neuromuscular junction exhibit abnormalities such as being loosely packed, hypertrophic and having excessive growth into the extracellular space
• some nerve terminals are completely wrapped in Schwann cells
• adult mice have enlarged ventricles
• adult mice have abnormal axonal and synaptic ultrastructures
• adult mice have abnormal axonal and synaptic ultrastructures
• from P12 to P15, nerve terminals in the neuromuscular junction exhibit abnormalities such as irregular shapes, swellings and blocklike endings
• some nerve terminals are completely wrapped in Schwann cells
• neurites extend axons that are thin and twisty with varicosities and bulbous endings compared to axons in wild-type mice and can be phenocopied by the exposure of wild-type neurites to cytochalasin
