muscle
• precocious activation with 5 fold higher percentage of EdU+ satellite cells
• in tibialis anterior (TA) muscles after induced Cre expression and CTX-induced muscle injury (7.1% vs 13.1% in controls)
• following induced Cre-mediated recombination the percentage of satellite cells loosely associated with isolated single myofibers from EDL muscles is increased (11%) compared to controls where only 3% of satellite cells are not closely attached to myofibers
• following induced Cre-mediated recombination around 30% of satellite cells are found outside the basal lamina in the interstitial space in muscles compared to only around 5% in controls
• in tibialis anterior (TA) muscles after induced Cre expression and CTX-induced muscle injury

muscle
N
• no abnormalities in muscle growth or muscle fiber composition
• at P7 and P21, higher percentages of satellite cells are located outside the basal lamina compared to controls suggesting a defect in homing
• 52% reduction in the number of PAX7+ satellite cells per tibialis anterior area
• at 21 days post injury the number of satellite cells is reduced by 70%
• in aged mice there is a 37% reduction in the number of PAX7+ satellite cells compared to age matched controls
• reduced muscle recovery rate following CTX-induced injury of tibialis anterior (TA) muscles at 21 days post injury
• however, at 7 days post injury ratio of injured to uninjured TA muscle mass is similar to controls
• at both 7 and 21 days post injury muscles contain smaller centrally nucleated myofibers and myofibers are smaller at 7 days post injury
• muscle recovery rate in aged mice is also reduced with fewer centrally nucleated myofibers in injured TA muscles at 5 days post infection
