integument
• mice exhibit robust spontaneous scratching

nervous system
• analysis of calcium signals after the application of the pruritogen chloroquine in isolated dorsal root ganglia (DRGs) shows that the percentage of responsive neurons is higher than in controls, however no difference in the peak calcium response after chloroquine application is seen
• however, analysis of calcium signals after the application of the pruritogens histamine or BAM8-22 (MrgprC11 activator) in isolated dorsal root ganglia (DRGs) shows no difference in the number of cells or in the magnitude of the Ca2+ response after the application of either pruritogen

nervous system
• current-clamp experiments on dorsal root ganglia (DRGs) show a significantly depolarized resting membrane potential; most neurons are unable to generate action potentials, even in response to large current injections, however a small DRG subset is able to fire at a depolarized resting membrane potential, even in response to current injections as low as 10 pA, and repetitive action potentials at 50 pA, which is less than the current needed to evoke action potentials for wild-type neurons
