behavior/neurological
• 6-month-old doxycycline-treated mice show decreased performance on the rotarod test and the two-limb hanging test in response to fasting, but not in the fed state

cellular
• some skeletal muscle mitochondria from doxycycline-treated mice appear swollen, empty and with cristae disorganization
• isolated mitochondria from skeletal muscle shows reduced oxidative phosphorylation complex III (CIII) activity
• cytochrome c production in isolated mitochondria is reduced to 54% of wild-type

growth/size/body
• doxycycline-treated mice exhibit reduced body weight by 5-6 months of age
• 5-month-old doxycycline-treated mice show a poorer response to fasting, showing greater weight loss after fasting than controls

muscle
• some skeletal muscle mitochondria from doxycycline-treated mice appear swollen, empty and with cristae disorganization
• mice show increased skeletal muscle de novo lipid synthesis in close contact with dysfunctional mitochondria
• skeletal muscle from doxycycline-treated mice shows fiber shrinkage, sarcomere disorganization and debris, indicating myopathy
