N normal phenotype
vision/eye
• orifice of the meibomian gland clogged with paste-like substance with a much higher lipid melting point than in wild-type mice
• however, acini of the meibomian glands are normal
• corneal damage and irregularities from 11 weeks of age increasing until 23 weeks
• reduced tear breakup time decreasing with age
• with greater water evaporation from the ocular surface
• more severe than in Awat1 null mice

behavior/neurological

integument
• orifice of the meibomian gland clogged with paste-like substance with a much higher lipid melting point than in wild-type mice
• however, acini of the meibomian glands are normal
• slightly reduced (O-acyl)-omega-hydroxy fatty acids in the meibum lipids
• reduced 2-omega-wax diesters in the meibum lipids
• reduced total di- and tri-unsaturated species of 1 omega wax diesters
• almost all species of wax (mono)esters are absent from the meibum lipids

endocrine/exocrine glands
