endocrine/exocrine glands
• isolated cells show increased intracellular vacuolization and visible ER dilations with protein overload
• cultured primary pancreatic acinar cells show higher levels of ER stress even without viral infection and this is further exacerbated with AMY2A-lentivirus infection or cerulein-stimulation
• decrease in AMY2A-lentivirus induced amylase secretion in cultured primary pancreatic acinar cells
• exacerbated cerulein-induced acute pancreatitis with increased pancreatic/body weight ratio, higher serum amylase levels and more severe histology scores
• however, no significant pancreatic abnormalities are detected at baseline
• in a chronic pancreatitis model cerulein-treated mice show more severe exocrine pancreatic atrophy with higher levels of collagen deposition and fibrosis and increased infiltration of inflammatory cells compared to similarly treated controls
• in a chronic pancreatitis model cerulein-treated mice show increased proliferation of pancreatic duct cells
