• 8-week-old male mice infected with an adenovirus expressing Pcsk9 with a D377Y mutation to reduce LDLR protein levels in the liver and induce atherosclerosis and fed with a high-cholesterol diet (HCD) for 2 weeks and then subjected to partial carotid ligation surgery and continued HCD feeding show increased area of atherosclerotic plaques in the left carotid artery
• however, these mice show no differences in levels of plasma total cholesterol, triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, low density lipoprotein cholesterol, aspartate aminotransferase or alanine aminotransferase
