vision/eye
• the anterior and equatorial-bow regions of lenses in 86-week old mice show progression of swelling, liquefaction, and fiber disruption
• small vacuoles and slight swelling of lens fiber are seen in 16-week, but not 7-week, old mice
• lenses of 53-week old mice show disorganization of fibers and formation of vacuoles at the lens anterior surface
• 53-week old lenses show central opacity in the anterior cortex

homeostasis/metabolism
• on days 5 and 10 after needle puncture of lenses to create wounds, fibroblastic changes around the wounded area are smaller than in wild-type lenses
