N normal phenotype
adipose tissue
N
• both sexes show normal body fat ratio and body fat distribution whether on a normal chow diet or a high-fat diet
• on a normal chow diet, mice show normal expression of inflammatory cytokines in white adipose tissue (WAT)
• on a high-fat diet, mice show normal expression of genes involved in brown adipose tissue (BAT) thermogenesis
• after 14 weeks on a high-fat diet, white adipocyte size is modestly but significantly increased relative to wild-type controls
• insulin-mediated Akt activation in WAT is significantly increased on a normal chow diet and after 12 weeks on a high-fat diet
• after 14 weeks on a high-fat diet, mRNA expression of inflammatory genes is modestly decreased in WAT relative to wild-type controls

homeostasis/metabolism
N
• on a normal chow diet, mice show normal expression of adiponectin and leptin in WAT
• on a high-fat diet, mice show no differences in body temperature, respiratory exchange ratio, energy expenditure or fatty acid oxidation in BAT relative to wild-type controls
• after 14 weeks on a high-fat diet, serum levels of free fatty acids (FFAs) are lower than those in wild-type controls
• on a normal chow diet, mice show better glucose tolerance than wild-type controls
• after 12 weeks on a high-fat diet, obesity-related glucose intolerance is improved relative to wild-type controls
• on a normal chow diet, mice show higher insulin sensitivity than wild-type controls
• after 12 weeks on a high-fat diet, obesity-related insulin resistance is improved in association with preserved insulin signaling in WAT
• after 14 weeks on a high-fat diet, serum levels of FFAs are decreased, white adipocyte size is increased, and expression of adipose triglyceride lipase (ATGL) in WAT is significantly lower than that in wild-type controls, suggesting reduced lipolysis in WAT

growth/size/body
N
• both sexes show normal body weight gain whether on a normal chow diet or a high-fat diet

behavior/neurological
N
• on a high-fat diet, mice show no differences in food intake or activity relative to wild-type controls
