behavior/neurological
• in the cued fear conditioning test, mice with the paternally inherited mutant allele show higher percentage of freezing than wild-type mice both during the pretone and during the cued conditioning when tone is presented
• however, mice exhibit a normal freezing response in the contextual test
• mice exhibit similar behaviors to wild-type mice in the elevated zero maze, except for a decrease in the number of incomplete transitions to the other side closed arm when the mutant allele is paternally inherited, indicating that once these mice are out of the closed arm, they are more likely to cross the open arm toward the other side of the closed arm
• in the open field, the total distance traveled is shorter when the mutant allele is maternally inherited but not when paternally inherited, while the time spend in the center is similar to wild-type mice

nervous system
• basal synaptic transmissions in the hippocampal CA1 synapses are affected, with reduced input-output response in mice with either maternal or paternal transmission of the mutant allele
• the initial decrease of slope (maximum transient depression) in the (RS)-3,5-dihydroxyphenylglycine (DHPG)-LTD is larger in mice with the maternally inherited allele, indicating that mGluR-mediated long term-term depression is enhanced when the mutant allele is maternally inherited
• paired pulse facilitation is increased in hippocampal CA1 slices at intervals of 100 ms and 400 ms when the mutant allele is maternally inherited and at intervals of 25, 50 and 100 ms when the mutant allele is paternally inherited
