N
• surprisingly, mice exhibit normal skeletal muscle regeneration in response to cardiotoxin and show no detectable histological or ultrastructural alterations in skeletal muscle up to 1 year of age
• at 2 months of age, analysis of force-frequency relationship in the fifth toe EDL muscle revealed a slight but significant depression in isometric stress production at frequencies of 20-30 Hz but not at frequencies >30 Hz
• frequencies required to achieve 25% and 50%, but not 75%, of maximum isometric stress are slightly increased, indicating slightly blunted sensitivity of skeletal muscle to electrical stimulation in a narrow range of frequencies
• however, no significant changes in peak isometric stress production, passive tensile stress, or Young's modulus are observed

homeostasis/metabolism
• skeletal muscle is more susceptible to eccentric contraction-induced injury than wild-type muscle, as shown by a greater reduction in isometric stress production across the eccentric exercise bout
