• CD4+ T cells show hyper-proliferation when stimulated with anti-CD3 antibody (TCR activation), but not when stimulated with PMA and ionomycin
• in aged mice, the CD4/CD8 T cell ratio remains high in the spleen and lymph nodes unlike in wild-type mice in which the CD4/CD8 T cell ratio gradually decreases with age
• absolute number of CD4+ T cells is slightly increased
• CD4+ T cells show hyper-proliferation when stimulated with anti-CD3 antibody (TCR activation), but not when stimulated with PMA and ionomycin
• CD4+ T cells exhibit increased cell cycle progression following CD3 stimulation, with more T cells in S phase with a concomitant decrease in the corresponding cells in G0 phase
• CD4+ T cells produce lower levels of IL-2 upon stimulation with anti-CD3 antibody, indicating reduced effector function of CD4+ T cells, however this defect is diminished when cells are strongly stimulated with anti-CD3 and anti-CD28 agonists
