integument
• mice exhibit tumor like growth on the back with hair loss around 14 weeks of age
• seen by 14 weeks of age
• seen by 14 weeks of age
• Background Sensitivity: the age at which mice develop tumors decreases with the number of back-cross generation such that by the F5 generation on FVB/N, the median age of tumor development is 8.4 weeks
• mice develop papilloma with different degrees of dysplasia; mild dysplasia consists of atypia in the basal layer, mild hyperchromatosis and anisonucleosis, moderate dysplasia with atypical cells in the middle layers of the epithelium, and high grade dysplasia with loss of stratification of the epithelium and atypical cells with hyperchromatic and pleomorphic nuclei
• 7 of 57 mice that develop papilloma show invasive squamous cell carcinoma, with one showing lung metastasis
• in some cases, the skeletal muscle is invaded by the tumor resulting in a desmoplastic stromal reaction
