Reep1tm1.1Cahb/Reep1tm1.1Cahb mice exhibit kyphosis and gait abnormalities

behavior/neurological
• at rest, the trunk and tail are not lifted, and the paws contact the ground with most of their plantar surface
• abducted during locomotion with extreme external rotation of the paws and simultaneous forward movement in both hind limbs at 12 months
• mice exhibit spastic clonus upon skilled walking challenge
• at 16 and 20 months
• gait impairment progresses with age

nervous system
• cortical motor neurons exhibit reduced complexity of the peripheral endoplasmic reticulum compared with wild-type mice
• however, mice do not exhibit loss of cortical motor neuron stomata at 13 months
• in the spinal cord at 30 weeks
• however, axon outgrowth is normal
