• in response to 15% CO2, locus coeruleus neurons exhibit a smaller difference between peak and baseline instantaneous firing frequency compared with wild-type neurons
• following ammonium chloride withdrawal, locus coeruleus neurons exhibit delayed response to cytoplasmic acidification compared with wild-type neurons
