• tensile strength is reduced due to decreased tendon mass compared to in wild-type mice
• at 7 days and 3 months, patellar tendons are thinner than in wild-type mice
• tail tendons contain small tendon fiber bundles and higher cell density compared to in wild-type mice
• however, mice exhibit normal cell number in tail tendon fiber bundles
• tendons contain smaller diameter collagen fibrils compared with wild-type tendons
