• aortic vascular smooth muscle cells exhibit dilated rough endoplasmic reticulum and extended areas of extracellular matrix degradation compared with wild-type cells
• vascular smooth muscle cells are dedifferentiated, as determined by marker expression, compared with wild-type cells
• angiotensin II treated mice exhibit a reduced increase in systolic pressure compared with similarly treated wild-type mice
• in culture vascular smooth muscle cells from the aorta exhibit increased migration towards PDGF compared with similarly treated wild-type cell
