• males show no differences in sperm motility or sperm concentration relative to wild-type males
• sperm viability is significantly decreased (43.17 +/- 2.18%) relative to that in wild-type males (55.00 +/- 2.74%), as determined by the assessment of sperm membrane integrity using an eosin/nigrosin staining
• % of abnormal sperm is significantly higher (60.00 +/- 2.73%) than that in wild-type males (43.50 +/- 2.63%)
• mRNA expression of Bax (a proapoptotic factor) is significantly increased in testicular tissue (2.43 +/- 0.44) relative to that in wild-type males (0.57 +/- 0.25), pointing towards a proapoptotic state
• however, Bcl2 and Casp3 mRNA levels remain normal
• seminiferous tubules diameter is significantly decreased (185.56 +/- 4.71 um) relative to that in wild-type males (214.92 +/- 7.11 um)
• testis weight is significantly decreased (59.75 +/- 2.59 mg) relative to that in wild-type males (121.03 +/- 1.47 mg)
• gonadosomatic index (GSI = [testes weight/body weight] 100) is significantly decreased (0.44 +/- 0.06%) relative to that in wild-type males (0.73 +/- 0.03%)
