cardiovascular system
• left ventricular cardiomyocytes exhibit diminished shortening fraction (37% decrease), decreased rates of shortening (36%) and re-lengthening (45%)
• although basal rates of shortening and re-lengthening are decreased, response to the beta adrenergic agonist, isoproterenol, is similar to control
• calcium uptake rates into the sarcoplasmic reticulum are lower than controls, however there is no change in maximum velocity
• amplitude of the systolic Ca2+ transient is lower and time for 80% decay is prolonged
