• transgenic animals show no increase in susceptibility to DMBA-induced lesions (nevi) compared to control animals; lesion formation occurs in 90% of mice and lesion onset is about 10 weeks for both mutants and controls
• untreated mice observed for up to 9 months do not spontaneous develop nevi
• following a single UV exposure, mice remain tumor-free for duration of observation period
