• despite abnormal osteoblast morphology and physiology, osteoclast morphology and physiology are normal
• osteoblast surface is increased 50% compared to in wild-type mice
• bone formation rate is increased compared to in wild-type mice
• ovariectomized mice exhibit increased bone formation compared to similarly treated wild-type mice
• in vitro, osteoblasts from newborn mice exhibit a 25% increase in proliferation compared to wild-type cells
• osteoblast proliferation is increased 35% compared to in wild-type mice
• despite ovariectomy, trabecular numbers and thickness are increased compared to in similarly treated wild-type mice
• however, trabecular thickness is normal in mice with intact ovaries
• trabecular number is increased compared to in wild-type mice
• bone mass loss in ovariectomized mice is 17% less than in similarly treated wild-type mice
• tibia trabecular bone mass is increased 25% compared to in wild-type mice
• cultured bone marrow cells have more osteoprogenitors and mineralization area produced by colony forming unit-osteoblasts compared to wild-type bone marrow
