• when stimulated with steps of light, rods are 1.7-fold more sensitive and generated responses rise more gradually and peak later than in wild-type rods
• after light extinguishment, the circulating current recovery is delayed compared to in wild-type mice
• however, sodium/calcium and potassium exchange in rods is normal
