• mouse embryonic fibroblasts (MEFs) exhibit a 30% reduction in ATP levels compared to wild-type cells
• heart, kidney and liver ATP levels are more than 50% decreased compared to in wild-type mice
• MEFs are insensitive to rotenone or hydrogen peroxide induced ATP reduction unlike wild-type cells
• however, MEF sensitivity to a cytochrome c oxidase
• complex I activity is decreased compared to in wild-type mice
• however, complex II activity is normal
• cellular respirations in mouse embryonic fibroblasts is decreased compared to in wild-type cells
