• Background Sensitivity: mice on a mixed 129S4/SvJae C57BL/6 background initially exhibit decreased Basso Mouse Scale scores following spinal cord injury compared to wild-type mice
• Background Sensitivity: two weeks following spinal cord injury, mice on a mixed 129S4/SvJae C57BL/6 background exhibit increased Basso Mouse Scale scores compared to wild-type mice indicating improved recovery
• Background Sensitivity: following spinal cord injury, mice on a mixed 129S4/SvJae C57BL/6 background exhibit a 3-fold increase in 5-HT+ axons 0 to 2.5 mm caudal to the lesion and a 5-fold 2.5 to 5 mm caudal to the lesion compared to in wild-type mice
• Background Sensitivity: following spinal cord injury, mice on a mixed 129S4/SvJae C57BL/6 background exhibit a 2-fold increase in the number of ascending axons compared to wild-type mice
• however, regeneration of corticospinal tract axons following spinal cord injury is normal and mice exhibit normal spinal cord recovery on a congenic C57BL/6 background
