phenotype observed in females
phenotype observed in males
N normal phenotype
growth/size/body
• by day 16 mice are 25% smaller by weight compared to wild-type mice

behavior/neurological
• mice are ill-appearing and inactive

immune system
N
• no abnormal immune infiltrate is observed in the skin, bone of the forepaw and hind foot, liver, lung, spleen, pancreas, brain and thymus

endocrine/exocrine glands
• adnexal hyperplasia is associated with an increase in the size of hair follicles with some follicular keratosis or dilation and hyperplasia of the surrounding sebaceaous glands

integument
• adnexal hyperplasia is associated with an increase in the size of hair follicles with some follicular keratosis or dilation and hyperplasia of the surrounding sebaceaous glands
• by day 16 mice develop severe alopecia
• while fur growth is reinitiated after day 21, mice fail to recover all their fur
• the severity of alopecia is associated with the level of transgene expression
• adnexal hyperplasia is associated with an increase in the size of hair follicles with some follicular keratosis or dilation and hyperplasia of the surrounding sebaceaous glands
• by day 16 mice exhibit increased skin thickness (8 to 10 cells thick compared to 1 to 2 cells thick in wild-type mice) due to hyperkeratosis, epidermal hyperplasia and adnexal hyperplasia
