• no significant alterations in follicular stimulating hormone, lutenizing hormone, androstenedione, or testosterone levels are detected
• despite the presence of tails on all sperm, 98.5% are immotile
• multiple vacuolations present
• however, the morphology of Sertoli and Leydig cells is normal
• all epididymal sperm have abnormally shaped heads
• although the acrosomal structure appears normal in round spermatids at step 7, it is not fully formed at step 13
• fewer elongated spermatids present
• at stage 8 multiple spermatids sharing cytoplasm and with multiple tails are presen
• at stage 11 - 12 spermatids have heads that are not as elongated as in wild-type mice
• elongation of spermatids, spermatid separation, and acrosomal formation are impaired
• chromocentre organization of the nucleus and polarity of chromatin distribution are absent
• abnormalities are confined to post-meiotic stages of spermatogenesis
• chromatin condensation is disrupted
