• type B olfactory sensory neurons fail to respond to reduced oxygen although they respond normally to 8-bromo-cGMP and KCl

• in a conditioned place aversion test to an area of low oxygen these homozygotes fail to display a preference away from the low oxygen area consistent with the failure of type B olfactory sensory neurons to respond to low oxygen
