• Background Sensitivity: in coisogenic 129S1 background, no homozygous mutant mice were retrieved from E3.5 to E16.5 embryos from heterozygous intercrosses, suggesting early embryonic lethality unlike in mixed B6/129S1 or congenic B6 background

mortality/aging
• Background Sensitivity: in congenic B6 background, homozygous mutant embryos were apparently normal in growth and other developmental features, but about 60% of mutant neonates died within 2 days after birth due to inability to suckle milk unlike in mixed B6/129S1 or coisogenic 129S1 background
• the surviving mice grew to adulthood without significant growth retardation and were fertile, with normal mating behavior
behavior/neurological
• about 60% of homozygous mutant pups exhibited impaired mild suckling
• body color, breathing behavior, touch response, righting, and vocalization are all normal at birth
• affected homogeneous mice after death did not exhibit significant anatomical abnormalities in the palate, mouth, and esophagus
growth/size/body
• about 10% lower body weight compared to wild-type siblings at birth
homeostasis/metabolism
taste/olfaction
• exhibit the behavioral anosmia in female

• Background Sensitivity: mutant mice in mixed B6/129S1 background were born at a frequency slightly lower than the expected Mendelian frequency unlike mutant mice in congenic B6 or coisogenic 129S1 background
