mortality/aging
• fewer than expected mice are present from E14.5 to birth
• more than half of mice die perinatally

renal/urinary system
• as early as E15.5, mice develop cysts with squamous cell lining unlike wild-type mice
• cysts develop from glomeruli, proximal tubules, and the thick ascending limb of the loop of Henle and collecting ducts
• bilaterally in surviving mice
• mice exhibit a reduction in the nephrogenic zone compared with wild-type mice
