abnormal gastric surface mucous cell morphology ( J:116278 )
• the number of mucus granules is decreased, 2.8-fold fewer granules are docked with the apical membrane, mucus granule size is increased, and irregular apical membranes are frequently observed
• however, no clear abnormalities are seen in the thickness of the epithelia or the numbers of parietal, neck, or chief cells
decreased digestive secretion ( J:116278 )
• reduced basal mucin secretion by gastric epithelial cells; however when stimulated with A23187 mucus secretion is similar to wild-type cells
