neoplasm
• mice receiving 6 intragastric doses of N-nitrosomethylbenzylamine (NMBA) over 3 weeks show increased incidence of forestomach papillomas and dysplasias (carcinomas in situ) compared to controls; number of papillomas and dysplasias is ~equivalent to numbers in Fhit-deficient mice

homeostasis/metabolism

cellular
• cells are transfected with a retroviral cre to produce Nit1-deficient cells; Nit1-null cells have round and compact shapes, loss of lobular structure, higher cell density with increased S and G2/M cell populations, and >3-fold higher clonogenicity compared to cells not treated with cre recombinase
• after treatment with mitomycin C (MMC) or UV-C light, Nit1-deficient cells show enhanced survival compared to Nit1-sufficient cells

endocrine/exocrine glands
• there is only a small significant difference in number of branch points during pregnancy
• at mid-pregnant stages (day13 and 16), number of endbuds is significantly increased compared to controls
• null mammary glands show an increase in ductal structures; lobuloalveolar structures are better developed at later times during pregnancy compared to controls
