endocrine/exocrine glands
• high frequency of infiltrates of all sizes form in young mice
• pancreatic islets show infiltration by large numbers of CD4+ and CD8+ T cells, IgD+ B cells and CDIIc+ dendritic cells (DCs)
• gp38+, BP3+, and ER-TR7+ stromal cell networks form in infiltrates, with higher efficiency than in Ccl19 transgenic mice
• DCs and T cells localize close to chemokine-expressing islet cells
• infiltrates display an invasive phenotype with individual T cells frequently seen in the islet cell mass

immune system
• development of high endothelial venules (HEVs) which are characterized by thick endothelium and addressin expression in the lymphoid tissue with higher efficiency than in Ccl19 transgenic mice is seen
• 3 week treatment with lymphotoxin beta receptor (LTBR) induces loss of HEVs and stromal cells
