• peripheral B cell compartment in homozygotes is reduced with B cells accounting for ~25% of total splenocytes compared to 40% in wild-type
• a significant increase in lambda+ B cells is observed while 10% of B cells express both kappa and lambda light chains
• in kappa/lambda light chain included-B cells in mutant mice, a strong increase of CD23low/CD21high (marginal zone, MZ) B cells is observed compared to wild-type; ~15% of kappa-gated and 40% of kappa/lambda-included B cells are in the MZ compartment in mutants contrasting with the 5% of MZ B cells in wild-type
• B1 cells are unaffected in transgenic animals
• B cell receptor associated kappa chain expression is of lower density than endogenous kappa light chain expression in B cells
• a 9-fold increase in kappa expression is seen in lambda B cells vs wild-type
