immune system
• upon restimulation in vitro, T cells produce ~2-fold higher levels of Ifng compared to wild-type BALB/c controls
• mutant T cells only show a marginal increase in production of Il-4 in the same culture
• mutants show lower responses when infected with Leishmania major compared to control BALB/c mice; mice display up to a 30% reduction in footpad swelling especially near the end of disease progression and reduced numbers of parasites in the infected footpad

normal phenotype
• homozygous mice do not develop spontaneous autoimmune disease; no immune cell infiltration indicative of autoimmune disease is observed in organs of homozygotes
• total cellularity and composition of immune cells in primary and secondary lymphoid organs is not different from controls
• levels of activated T cells in the periphery is not altered compared to wild-type
• basal serum levels of immunoglobulins are not different from wild-type
• inflammatory responses in models of hypersensitivity are unaltered
• antiviral cytotoxic T lymphocyte reactions are intact in mutants as shown by responses to LCMV and influenza virus A
