• mutants display an elevated thermal threshold of the non-inured hindpaw following a thermal injury to the left hindpaw

abnormal L5 dorsal root ganglion morphology ( J:107144 )
• 7 days after unilateral axotomy, the number of neurons in the L5 contralateral DRG is 12058 in controls, while in mutants the number of neurons is significantly reduced to 9614; in the ipsilateral DRGs, wild-type mice showed significant loss of DRG neurons (8796 vs. 12058) while in mutants there is no further neuron loss (9972 vs. 9614)
