Find Mice Using the International Mouse Strain Resource (IMSR)
Mouse lines carrying:
Car4tm1Sly mutation (1 available); any Car4 mutation (25 available)
phenotype observed in females
phenotype observed in males
N normal phenotype
mortality/aging
• reduced survival of both male and female with a greater deficiency of females by weaning
• homozygous mice were only 38% of the number expected from Mendelian ratio
• the sex ratio was skewed in that only 31% of the homozygotes were female
• mice that survived to weaning appeared healthy, grew, and were fertile
• mating between male and female homozygous mutant mice produced small litters, and pups did not survive

phenotype observed in males
N normal phenotype
mortality/aging
• reduced survival of both male and female with a greater deficiency of females by weaning
• homozygous mice were only 38% of the number expected from Mendelian ratio
• the sex ratio was skewed in that 74% of the homozygotes were male
• male double homozygous mice that survived to weaning appeared healthy, grew, and were fertile
• many of female double homozygous mice died early

reproductive system
• few female double homozygous mice that survived to weaning were infertile

growth/size/body
• both males and females double homozygous mice that survived to weaning were significantly smaller than wild-type

homeostasis/metabolism
• blocked buffering of the alkaline pH shifts as effective as the CA inhibitor, benzolamide, that accompany neuronal activity in hippocampal slices
