• increased sensitivity to N-methyl-N-nitrosourea, start to die 8 weeks after treatment as opposed to 13 weeks in controls

• beta cell loss due to streptozotocin is greater than in wild-type controls

• significantly elevated blood glucose 2-9 days after streptozotocin treatment
