• secretory epithelium cell survival and proliferation is increased during involution compared to in wild-type mice
• involution is delayed compared to in wild-type mice
• by 9 months of age, 62% of female mice develop mammary tumors with or without zinc induction
• mammary gland tumors develop mostly in parous females and only 1 male exhibited a mammary gland tumor
• however, no evidence of metastatic lesions is present
• by 9 months of age, one third of multiparous females develop mammary adenocarcinomas
