normal phenotype
• homozygotes are viable, fertile, and healthy with no apparent growth deficits relative to wild-type mice
• histological and immunocytochemical analysis of mutant retinas and ERG analysis indicated normal rod and cone photoreceptor survival and normal a- and b-waves, with no gross defects in the inner retina up to at least 18 months of age
• immunolabeling with cell-specific markers and ERG analysis revealed no structural or functional abnormalities in inner retinal neurons
• preliminary analysis of the hippocampus revealed normal mossy fiber morphology, with no gross abnormalities in dentate granular cells or cells in the CA3 region
