Pigrtm1Fejo mutation (2 available); any Pigr mutation (59 available)
phenotype observed in females
phenotype observed in males
N normal phenotype
immune system
• IgA levels are 50-fold higher in the serum than in controls
• G. lamblia infection leads to a large increase parasite specific IgA levels compared to infected wild-type controls
• mice are more susceptible to Giardia muris infection compared to controls
• seven weeks after infection, mice have over 1,000-fold higher trophozoite numbers in the small intestine compared with controls
• fecal cyst shedding is also significantly higher
• mice are able to eradicate infection with the GS/M strain of G. lamblia that can infect humans

digestive/alimentary system
• mice have 10-fold lower fecal levels of IgA than in controls
• G. lamblia infection leads to 2-fold increase of IgG in the fecal matter

hematopoietic system
• IgA levels are 50-fold higher in the serum than in controls
• G. lamblia infection leads to a large increase parasite specific IgA levels compared to infected wild-type controls

immune system
• IgA concentrations at the mucosal surface in the small intestine and in fecal extracts are decreased
• increase in levels of IgA in serum; only polymeric forms of IgA are seen
• increase in serum IgG levels, including antibodies to E. coli but not Lactobacillus or gluten
• IgG levels are increased in the saliva
• small intestinal IgG levels are 2-fold higher than in wild-type
• mutants have more interstitial IgA in the lamina propria of the small intestine than wild-type mice while no IgA is seen in the epithelium, indicating lack of intracellular IgA transport despite increased concentration of subepithelial IgA
• lack of IgM epithelial transport in the small intestine
• no vesicular IgA transport through hepatocytes

digestive/alimentary system
• increase in mucosal leakiness, however, intestinal mucosa shows no signs of inflammation

homeostasis/metabolism
• defective epithelial barrier function as indicated by increased albumin levels at mucosal surfaces (in saliva and feces), reflecting epithelial leakage of serum proteins

reproductive system
N
• mice exhibit normal fertility

hematopoietic system
• IgA concentrations at the mucosal surface in the small intestine and in fecal extracts are decreased
• increase in levels of IgA in serum; only polymeric forms of IgA are seen
• increase in serum IgG levels, including antibodies to E. coli but not Lactobacillus or gluten
