• by E10.5, lens pit is significantly smaller than wild-type, whereas at E11.5, lens vesicle is still connected to surface ectoderm and remains small
• at E9.5, regional reduction in placodal thickness is observed with surface ectoderm apposed to optic vesicle being markedly thinner; proportion of proliferating cells in this region is significantly different from wild-type
• lens epithelial layer remains attached to surface ectoderm (prospective corneal epithelium)
• lens fiber cell differentiation is delayed compared to wild-type
