• lipoprotein production is normal in transgenic mice, but clearance rates are reduced
• increased by ~50%; increased absolute cholesterol level
• intermediate-density lipoprotein (IDL) + HDL cholesterol level is increased ~2.6-fold
• lipoprotein profile shows increase in chylomicron + VLDL cholesterol level of 2.8-fold; half of increase in plasma cholesterol is due to VLDL fraction, while remainder is equally IDL +LDL or HDL components
• elevated ~75% in both fasted and fed states compared to controls on normal diet
• 1.4-fold increase in intermediate- + low-density lipoprotein (IDL + LDL) triglycerides is detected
• on high fat diet, levels are slightly decreased in fasted vs fed transgenics and remain constant in wild-type
• lipoprotein profile shows 1.6-fold increase in VLDL triglyceride level compared to wild-type mice
• fasting APO C1 levels are 17 mg/dl and increase to 40 mg/dl in the fed state with normal chow (normal human level is 9 mg/dl)
• on Western diet (high fat), fasted levels are 54 mg/dl and increase to 68 mg/dl in fed state
• hyperlipidemia results from reduced lipoprotein clearance rates
