nervous system
N |
• unlike in Camk2atm2Sva homozygotes, field excitatory postsynaptic potential and synaptic plasticity are normal
• long term potentiation is increased upon weak stimulation (150 theta bursts at 50 Hz)
• however, long term potentiation is normal upon strong stimulation (4 theta bursts at 100 Hz)

behavior/neurological
• contextual conditioning is generalized with mice exhibiting increased freezing at the onset of the tone training
• spatial reversal learning in mice is impaired
• when probed after 14 days of training in a hidden platform Morris maze test, mice spend less time searching in the quadrant containing the platform and cross the position where the platform was less often when compared to wild-type mice
• however, mice probed after 8 days of training perform as well as wild-type mice in a hidden platform Morris water maze test
• mice display enhanced coordination on an accelerating rotarod
• older mice exhibit handling-induced seizures (3% of mice 2 to 4 months old, 30% of mice 7 to 9 months old and 90% of mice 12 to 14 months old)

• older mice exhibit handling-induced seizures (3% of mice 2 to 4 months old, 30% of mice 7 to 9 months old and 90% of mice 12 to 14 months old)
• when subjected to weak stimuli (4 pulses at 100 Hz) or 10 Hz per 10 second tetanus mice exhibit lowered long term potentitation threshold
• however, long term potentiation is not enhanced and treatment with APV , an NMDA-receptor antagonist, blocks the lowered long term potentiation threshold
