• although mutants appear outwardly healthy at 5-8 months of age, they show features of bladder carcinoma in situ (CIS), including moderate-to-severe urothelial atypia with marked nuclear pleomophism such as giant nuclei and abundant mitotic figures
• CIS lesions do not progress to transitional cell carcinoma (TCC) by 8 months of age
