immune system
• NK T cells numbers are decreased in the thymus
• alpha-beta NK T cells are virtually absent in the thymus while there is a six-fold increase in gamma-delta NK T cells
• these gamma-delta NK T cells have similar NK markers as their alpha-beta counterparts except most are CD4-
• the expression of FcgRIII is increased on NK cells
• NK cells secrete increased amounts of IFN-gamma relative to controls in response to immobilized IgG
• Ab-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity by NK cells is enhanced in these mice
• cytolytic activity against NK target cells is normal
• NK cells secrete increased amounts of IFN-gamma relative to controls in response to immobilized IgG

immune system
• T cells do not proliferate to the same degree as controls when stimulated with ConA or anti-CD3e
• proliferative rates to PMA + Ionomycin are normal
• the thymus medullary is severely reduced in these mice
• thymocyte number is reduced about 6-fold
• double positive thymocyte number is decreased about 7-fold
• peripheral CD4 T cell numbers are reduced about 10-fold at weaning though numbers approach 1/3rd of normal by 14 weeks of age
• CD8 T cell numbers are less than controls at weaning but approach normal levels by 14 weeks of age
• the CD4 single-positive thymocyte population is 1/16th that found in wild-type
• the CD8 single positive thymocyte population is 1/6th that found in wild-type
• alpha-beta IEL numbers are decreased in the gut
