Mouse lines carrying:
FusGt(U3NeoSV1)HO14Ggh mutation (1 available); any Fus mutation (39 available)
phenotype observed in females
phenotype observed in males
N normal phenotype
mortality/aging
• pups fail to suckle and die within 16 hours of birth

cellular
• centromeric fusion and presence of extrachromosomal elements are frequently observed
• E14.5 metaphase Fus-deficient chromosomes show aneuploidy in more than 67% of cells examined
• this is frequently observed in Fus-deficient cells

behavior/neurological
• newborns fail to suckle

hematopoietic system
• thymus is reduced in size in mutants from E16 to birth
• white blood cell numbers are reduced in homozygotes and lymphocytes account for almost all of the reduction
• there is a reduction in the number of IgM+ B cells in the spleen
• after transfer of Fus-deficient fetal liver cells to irradiated wild-type hosts, levels of IgM produced in response to OVA challenges are 9.8-fold lower compared to hosts receiving wild-type liver cells

immune system

• white blood cell numbers are reduced in homozygotes and lymphocytes account for almost all of the reduction

• after transfer of Fus-deficient fetal liver cells to irradiated wild-type hosts, levels of IgM produced in response to OVA challenges are 9.8-fold lower compared to hosts receiving wild-type liver cells
• mice have reduced cellularity in lymphoid organs

endocrine/exocrine glands
• thymus is reduced in size in mutants from E16 to birth

nervous system
• cultured neurons from Fus-deficient mice have irregularly branched dendrites and numerous long thin processes like immature axons extended from the cell body; neurons possess a single axon and multiple dendrites
• numbers of spines are reduced or transformed into long, thin filamentous protrusions resembling filopodia
• there are more spine branches in proximal and distal regions compared to wild-type; there are more tertiary dendritic branches in the distal region
