• homozygotes are viable, fertile, and apparently healthy up to 1 year of age, with normal hematologic profiles relative to wild-type mice
• however, at 2 hrs after i.p. injection of LPS (30 mg/kg), homozygotes display an exaggerated inflammatory response with a significantly increased accumulation of leukocytes and neutrophils in lung and liver
