mortality/aging
• at E6.5 the ectodermal portions of the egg cylinder are reduced and endoderm is loose and columnar (J:6742)
• E7 embryos showed varying ectoderm deficiencies (J:13665)
• E9 embryos formed gut, heart, and yolk sac, but had a small neural plate instead of a neural tube (J:13665)

integument
• before weaning coat appears clumped and very silky; after weaning disheveled
• weanling mice are ruffled, untidy and appear greasy
• arrangment of medullary cells within the shaft is less uniform than in normal hair
• medullary air spaces contain extensive areas of fluid
• pigmentation in proximal part of all hair types is occasionally reduced
• there are variations in calibre and hairs bend and break easily, sometimes low in the follicle
• epidermis fails to thin and sebaceous glands do not regress
• between birth and two days vibrissae are close to the head and point backward
• by two weeks of age, whiskers are sligthly waved and nolonger situated backwards
• epidermis is irregular and less compact
