N normal phenotype
mortality/aging
• mutant mice have higher than normal mortality through 6 weeks of age

behavior/neurological
• mutant mice nursed by homozygous females have increased mortality and reduced growth weights (J:8170)
• immunocytochemistry shows high dihydroxyphenylacietic acid levels at early lactation in mutant mice, implicating low prolation levels as the cause of diminished maternal care (J:96710)

endocrine/exocrine glands

growth/size/body
• reduced growth of rate offspring due to maternal neglect
• at 6 weeks of age mutant mice weighed less than normal mice
• at 6 weeks of age compared to normal
• normal at 6 weeks of age but greater in weight compared to normal at 17 weeks of age

homeostasis/metabolism
• detected 24 hours postpartum
• there is a major increase in unconjugated serum bilirubin

liver/biliary system
• at 6 weeks of age compared to normal
• appears in young mice at about 24 hours postpartum, detected by a distinct orange coloration

reproductive system
• seminiferous tubules contain predominantly spermatogonial cells; only a few primary spermatocytes
• secondary spermatocytes, spermatids, and spermatozoa are absent from the majority of seminiferous tubules
• may be the result of a rise in scrotal temperature due to inguinal hernia
• due to inguinal hernia

pigmentation
• observed as hair appears but begins to disappear at weaning
• by 6 weeks of age coat color is indistinguishable from normal albino siblings

hematopoietic system
• normal at 6 weeks of age but greater in weight compared to normal at 17 weeks of age
• normal at 6 weeks of age but greater in weight compared to normal at 17 weeks of age

immune system
• normal at 6 weeks of age but greater in weight compared to normal at 17 weeks of age

integument
• observed as hair appears but begins to disappear at weaning
• by 6 weeks of age coat color is indistinguishable from normal albino siblings

cellular
• may be the result of a rise in scrotal temperature due to inguinal hernia
